5 Keys To Building A Healthy Relationship (part2)

love and trust

This is a continuation from the previous part. We’ve stated previously that in order for you to lay a healthy foundation for your relationship, the first thing you need to do is “to be yourself”
. If someone cannot love you for who you are, regardless of the front you display, they will never love you once they have a glimpse of your true self. Anyone that can’t accept your person cannot love you.
The next thing you need to do in order for you to lay a healthy foundation for your relationship is to;
  • Be Truthful And Honest:

When your partner can count on your words, he/she would never have any cause to think twice before acting on them. When you can claim responsibility for your words, you can gain trust easily. Don’t be known as a double mouthed individual whose words cannot be taken seriously. If your partner have difficulty believing what you say, your relationship is already doomed. Relationship can never move forward in an environment of falsehood and dishonesty.

Be truthful to yourself and your partner from the onset and make sure that you don’t say things you don’t mean. Always mean what you say and say what you mean. And be willing to act what you say. That way, your partner will always stand by you because he/she knows that you’re not a random talker.
  • Know What You Want From your Relationship:

Why are you in that relationship? So many people go into relationship without having in mind what they want from it. Before you can embark on a building project, you must first decide the purpose of the building; if it’s going to be for commercial purpose or for residential purpose. So that you will know how to construct it.
We shape our relationships according to what we aim to achieve from it. If you don’t have a clear definition of what you want from a relationship, your relationship will have no direction. When you know what you are looking for, you can be able to access your partner if he/she is able to give you what you are looking for in that relationship.

Some people are looking for commitment while some others are looking for someone to bear their burdens etc. defining your relationship from the onset by stating clearly what you are looking or aiming to build from the relationship will help you in assessing the people coming into your life if they will be able to give you what you are looking for or aiming to achieve from your relationship.
  • Know your roles in the relationship:

Relationship is a game of two people meeting each other’s needs. You can’t enter into a relationship with an empty hand and hope to get something meaningful in return. It’s only a fool that would want to build a house and not sit down first to calculate the cost involve in erecting such a building.

Relationship is work. You can’t get any meaningful benefit from it if you don’t go into it prepared. You are in the relationship to meet the needs of your partner. So, you should prepare your mind on the kind of roles you’re going to play to him/her. Both of you must bring something tangible to the table for the relationship to be a success.

Preparing your mind for the roles you would play helps in preparing you for those times when the relationship would start placing huge demands on you.
  • Let love be all that matters:

Why are you with the person that you’re with? If he/she loses that thing that you’re attracted to, would you still be with him/her? Love is simply accepting someone for who he or she is. If you can’t accept his/her ugly nature, you can’t love them. Every relationship has up and down times. The love both of you have for each other is what will hold you two together when the stormy weather blows to your direction. This is actually the time when partner’s real motives are revealed.

Money, good looks, great physiques, etc. are good. But do you think those are the things that are necessary to have a great relationship? When one can’t distinguish between those things that are necessary for building a healthy relationship and those things that are not, one is very much likely to make mistakes in the choices one is going to make. Let your love for you partner not stem from things that are easily degradable but from things that are eternal and from the heart. As those are what will hold your relationship together and make you want to fight on when every other thing says you should give up.

Laying a good foundation for your relationship from the onset is very vital for building and keeping a successful relationship. The way you start your relationship will determine how far the relationship will go. Always ensure that you present yourself for who you are from the onset as that is the basis for building love and trust in any relationship.
