1Thessalonians 5:17 says "pray without season". Why?
Most of us Christians sometimes wonder why God Almighty demands us to pray ceaselessly?
some of us can't seem to understand why our God that seem to know all of our pains, sorrows and needs requires us to still ask him first in prayer before he'll meet them. Why can't he just meet them and give our desires to us since he already knows them? Or is it necessary that we must pray to him first before he'll do what he's promised to do for us as his children? Why?
I am going to give to us five reasons why it is necessary for us Christians to pray consistently in order for us to experience the hand of God in our lives.
- It is commanded by God: prayer is necessary for every Christian because it is commanded by God. It is one of the fastest ways to gain access into God's throne of grace. God said " call me in your days off trouble and I will answer you". If God had said that we should call on him through prayer, what should stop us from doing that? Prayer is a very fast way to gain access to God's throne and if you want God to give you an audience, you must pray.
- God is only bound by his word:
prayer is a remindal to God of his words and promises concerning our lives as Christians. Everytime we pray, we are reminding God of his spoken words towards our lives. God said his words will not return void, it must accomplish the purpose for which it is sent. Everytime we pray, we are activating God's word to accomplish it's purpose in our lives. - Prayer is one of the ways through which we believers fellowship with God.
It's a dialogue between a believer (child) and God(father). We can tell God our challenges and seek counsel from him. We can draw strength from him in our weakest state and seek counsel from him in our confused state. Prayer draws us closer to God in fellowship and we're able see him plan for our lives through such fellowship. - Prayer proves our faith, trust and dependence on God:
Everytime you go to God in prayer you're simply telling him that you have faith in him and trust him enough to see you through. When we pray, we take the attention from ourselves and our abilities and we place it all on God. We're simply telling God that we're putting everything in his hands. It is one sure way we exercise our faith and trust in God. - It is a means through which God exercises his power in our lives:
the sole difference between Christianity and every other religion is the power of God. And prayer is one of the sure ways through which God exercises his power in our lives and through us. Show me a prayerful Christian and I will show you a powerful Christian. The Christian Life will be devoid of the power of God without prayer, thus if you want to experience the power of God, you must get down on your knees in prayer.
Yes, God knows our needs and everything about us, he has spoken great promises for our lives and destinies and he has promised to manifest his power in our lives. But if we must gain access to all he has promised us, the master key we need to apply is "prayer" because without prayer, God can't do much in our lives.
