What motivated your decision to go into a romantic relationship?
And why do you choose to be in a relationship with that particular person that you’re with? Did you have an idea of what you wanted from a relationship before you went into it, or you just went into it with the hope that it’ll turn out well? And if you’re already in a relationship, is the relationship giving you the type of satisfaction you expected from it- if you had any?

The rate at which So many matured singles go into relationships without having a clear cut reason for why they are going into the relationship and what they aim to achieve from it is so alarming. Some of them feel that a relationship is necessary for them because they are grown up and can make decisions on their own. While some of them just what to have fun. Most of them fail to ask themselves this very one question “where will this relationship lead me to?

Regardless your reason for being in the relationship, have you ever asked yourself the above question? Every failed relationship we get involved in, takes a portion of our lives with it; whether we are the ones that initiated the break up or not. Relationship is not just something you jump into and jump out of without having a plan of action. Until you have a clear understanding of ‘why you have to be in a relationship?’ You won’t take your relationship life and decisions seriously.

One sure way for you to get a proper understanding of what romantic relationship truly is and what its main purposes are, is for you to seek for the true definition of what romantic relationship is and relate it to how it will affect your life. What do you think romantic relationship is? Or what do you think is the purpose of a relationship between two matured singles. Do you think it is just to catch fun, while away time and gain experience in relating with the opposite sex? Or you think that there is something much more to it that one needs to pay close attention to.

The definition you give to a thing will determine how you’re likely going to relate with such a thing and the level of importance you will place on it. That is why it is very important you define your relationship from the onset because Relationship is a very vital aspect of our lives as humans and its effects in our lives are very overwhelming - whether positive or negative.

I think the ultimate goal of every romantic relationship involving matured singles should be to assess the possibility of building our lives and our future with the partner we cherish in a lovely union of marriage.  If every matured singles going into romantic relationship have this at heart, they will avoid investing their time, resources and themselves in relationships that seem to have no foundation and direction.

Yes, relationship is fun and interesting, but is that your sole reason for venturing into it? Do you design and construct a building as an architect because it is fun and interesting to design and erect it or because you have a purpose you want the building to meet? A person’s reason for being in a relationship determines to a very large extent how they’ll act and relate with their partner in that relationship. How does defining our relationship from the onset of the relationship affect us and the value we place in the relationship in general?

Defining your relationship helps you identify what you want in the relationship at every point in time, it helps you identify the type of people you should open up your heart to and if you’re already in a relationship; it helps you evaluate the kind of relationship you’re having with your partner, gives you a clear understanding of your relationship expectations, helps you analyze if your relationship expectations are feasible. And finally, it helps you determine what you have to invest in the relationship in order for you to have what you aim to achieve from it.

 People that have a clear relationship definition from the onset of their relationship don’t just give themselves to anyone that shows interest in them or rush the process of the relationship. They take their time to understand their partner first and discover what he/she wants and also find out if he/she will be willing to give what they are aiming to achieve in the relationship before they invest themselves fully into it.

Relationship is an investment and if you want to enjoy the true benefits of romantic relationship, you must be very prepared to draw a detailed plan of what you want and what you must do in order to make your relationship profitable. Anything short of that is leaving your relationship to chance and you know that whatever is left to chance has a very slim chance of surviving or giving us any meaningful benefit.

Defining your relationship from the onset is the only way you can know what to expect and what you’re likely to get in the relationship. It also helps you to assess your partner and decipher if he/she wants the same things as you from the relationship or he/she is just using you for the time being.
Defining your relationship helps you in making informed relationship decisions. And when your relationship decisions are informed ones, you stand a higher chance of making your relationship a success.

Don’t go into any relationship without having a plan of action. When you have a clear idea of what you want from your relationships, you don’t easily fall prey to people that will take you for granted. You know what you want, why you want what you want, what you have to invest in the relationship in order for you to get what you want and they type of partner you need to attract that can get you what you want.

 Having the right Knowledge about relationship empowers us all through our relationship journey. Don’t forget that your knowledge about relationship starts from the definition you give to it.  So if I should ask you, “how do you define romantic relationship?
